Inspired handpainted folk art glass ornaments
This Folk Art collection offers uncommon handblown glass ornaments, made with extraordinary techniques. Blown by a talented of group of glassblowers then coupled with skilled painters who have tremendous abilities decorating 3D artglass, this collection reflects a unique point of view.
To create some of the more unusual shapes, the glass is blown into a specifically designed metal mold. For example; the frog mold has 4 tiny openings at each leg which allow freeform frog legs to be pulled. While the artist is blowing, they will reach into these openings with something that looks like a crochet hook, and pull the glass through. The trick is to direct the air through the mold properly – to fill each leg one at a time – while moving the hook to shape the frog leg, at the same time!
The blow-through-the-mold items in this collection also include the toucan, hen and armadillo.
When the shapes are complete, the inner ornament is coated with silver. This produces impressive reflection [it is now a mirror] and is the catalyst that delivers considerable depth of color.
Again, we go to extraordinarily skilled artists to pull off the riot of color and precision work that our designs require. These painters work with layers of lacquer and paint, to achieve the details on the Folk Art Series.
